《牛津英语大词典》 通常简称为OED，是一部公认的权威历史性英语语文词典。

第一任主编詹姆斯.默雷（James A.H.Murray）是著名的语言学家，所以又称“默雷词典”（Murray’s Dictionary），原书名是《新英语词典》（年代顺序版）（New English Dictionary on Historical Principle）,故又称NED，NED是在1858年由英国语文学会组织筹备编写，1884-1928年出版。《牛津英语大辞典》（12卷）自 1928年出版发行以来是世界公认的有史以来最伟大的英文辞典，赢得了“辞典中的圣经”的美誉。

《牛津英语大词典》目前最新版本为20卷本第二版，收词超过50万条，引证例句250万条，全部发音使用国际音标标注，词条及例句涵盖了所有英语国家的地方英语，包括北美、南非、澳大利亚、新西兰和加勒比等等，并且给出了词源分析以及不同地方英语的拼写差异。
